The Philippines was once a Spanish colony and is named after
Philip the then King of Spain. Then it was under the control of the Americans
but is now a Republic.
Many cultures have influenced the Philippines, which give it a unique
blend of American, European & Asian, but most important for many of us,
English runs along side their local languages.
The people are exceedingly polite and older folk are treated respectfully.
I always treat them with respect also. It's easy to see some old guy sat
outside a little house and not realise he is well educated, retired from
the American navy and has seen more of the world than me.
Our area has one of the most beautiful beaches imaginable, a horseshoe
bay with three islands. Until recently virtually undiscovered. When you
ask for a Gin you get given the bottle and for a fraction of the price
of a shot back home.
The pictures on this page are predominantly from our area as I am there
to take them. The Philippines has many tourist spots all with local interest
and flavour. Baguio is a few hours north from us and is the mountain province.
The altitude gives it a temperate climate and it is covered with pine
trees. At camp John Hay you can play golf, eat Italian or just chill out
with a San Miguel beer with your beautiful lady.
